Crossfade Percussion Duo, The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps

Mark Reilly, a student of Mr. Nick Attanasio, is a three-time Northeastern States Drum Corps Association individual snare drum as well as a two-time individual bass drum champion. In 2003 Mark joined “The Old Guard” Fife and Drum Corps where he has served as the corps’ percussion arranger, snare drum section leader, and currently serves as the Drum Group Leader. Early on in his career with the Old Guard Mark forged a relationship with Mr. Erik Julliard, producer of the Berlin and Basel Tattoos as well as the director of the Top Secret Drum Corps. Mark became a performing member of the Top Secret Drum Corps in 2005 for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s Salute to Australia and later arranged for the group until 2010. His arrangements can be heard on recordings from the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (2006, 2009, 2010), South African International Tattoo (2008) and the Russian Military Tattoo (2011).


Mark’s travels often bring him to Europe, where he has worked as a consultant or presented clinics for The Top Secret Drum Corps, Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, The Coldstream Guards, the Traditional Collective, Pasveerkorps, the Trommelgorp West Nederland (TWN), The Royal College of Music, and Les Tambours de 89. While in Europe Mark also frequently performs in the Basel Fasnacht carnival as a guest of the Swiss cliques OnYva and Déjà Vu, as well as Ivan Kym’s champion drum ensemble Chriesibueb. Mark is an active speaker, adjudicator, clinician, and music educator. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Northwestern State University of Louisiana and is currently enrolled in the Master’s of Music Education program through Boston University.


Mark had the distinct honor of presenting along side percussion all stars Michael Burritt, Jeff Prosperie and Pat Petrillo during the Drummer’s Heritage Event sponsored by Robin Engleman at the 2012 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC). Mark has also presented clinics or performed during multiple PAS Day’s of Percussion including Louisiana, Alabama, Virginia, West Virginia, Massachusetts, and several PASIC’s to include those held in 2007, 2008 (as a part of Dominick Cuccia’s Not-so-Traditional Players), 2010, and 2013-2015. During PASIC 2014 Mark collaborated with Mr. Peter Vulperhorst to create the Cross Fade Percussion Duo and received top notoriety on their debut performance. The 2015 iteration of PASIC brought a new level of international collaboration, which included a joint concert with the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Corps of Drums.


Not only has he been involved with PAS on the performance level over the last decade but also Mark has been a member of the PAS Marching Percussion Committee where he now serves as Chair. In addition he has also presented at Boston Conservatory, the University of Iowa, Marshall University, the University of Kentucky, West Virginia University, Ohio State University, and the University of Southern Mississippi. Mark has solo literature published through Tapspace Publishing as well as several articles detailing research and development within the art of rudimental drumming through Percussive Notes and Les Tambours de 89. In addition Mark serves on the Executive Committee of the Company of Fifers and Drummers, and is a member of the National Association of Rudimental Drummers (NARD), and the United Stated Association of Rudimental Drummers (USARD).
